The Brief
Support a Primary Care Network planning to grow its workforce by at least 70 headcount through the Additional Role Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS)
Deliver a detailed estates assessment to identify opportunities for improved space utilisation across the PCN
Visit and assess 19 sites to understand building condition, individual practice workforce plans and access models
Produce a comprehensive outcome report to inform a potential Project Initiation Document for future development
What We Did
We conducted a thorough space utilisation and premises needs analysis across all 19 PCN locations, combining on-site assessments with a detailed understanding of each practice’s workforce and access plans. We facilitated workshops with PCN and system stakeholders to drive joined-up thinking and ensure the estates strategy reflected the broader direction of travel for integrated care. Our findings were brought together in a comprehensive report that identified both quick wins for unlocking under-utilised space in the short term and a clear roadmap for medium and long-term premises development.
The Outcome
The assessment revealed that under-utilised space existed across the PCN's estate, but that unlocking it would require a shift in how care is delivered, moving toward a model where care reaches patients at the point of need and space is reworked to support new roles. We supported the PCN in creating a practical roadmap for improving utilisation immediately, while also setting out a strategic approach for extending into new premises as the network grows. The project demonstrates how intelligent estates planning, grounded in real data and genuine stakeholder engagement, can lay the foundations for truly integrated primary care.
